Eastside Meals on Wheels (EMOW) operates almost entirely with volunteers.

Because of our enthusiastic volunteers delivering meals and managing the organization, Eastside Meals on Wheels is thriving and many of our neighbors do not struggle to live at home.

As an independent non-profit organization EMOW requires individuals with numerous specialized talents and, of course, drivers to deliver meals five days a week. We do not believe in frequent/lengthy meetings; we feel everyone is more productive working independently or in teams – using online resources. Read more about how you can help below. (Volunteer Application Forms are included at the bottom of this page).

We are always looking for talented, enthusiastic individuals to help with:

  • Event planning
  • Website development
  • Graphic design
  • Public speaking
  • Promotions
  • Grant writing
  • Finance
  • Legal assistance

Board members are selected from volunteers who are committed to EMOW and want to go the next step in serving our community.

Meals are prepared every week day by a catering company and brought to our office at Waite Park Church near the corner of Johnson and 33rd St in Northeast Minneapolis. Volunteers pick up eight to ten meals labeled and packaged for their route at 11:15. A typical delivery route can be completed in about forty-five minutes.

EMOW_mapYou can select the amount of time you’d like to commit: one day per week, once a month, or twice a month, etc. We provide delivery training and help in learning the route. Changes in schedule, vacations, etc. are always accommodated. A friend is welcome to ride with you.

Drivers must:
  • Be able to carry meal containers
  • Climb stairs
  • Have a Minnesota drivers license
  • Have an automobile in good condition
  • and Auto insurance
In addition to providing warm, nutritious meals for our neighbors we sometimes notice problems our clients have and report that back to the office for follow-up. A friendly greeting once a day can be a life saver for some people.
